Tang Soo Do · Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Adults study the martial arts for a variety of reasons. Some are returning to the arts after practicing as children, while others are trying to stay in shape while wanting to avoid the boredom, monotony, and solitude of the local gym.  Additionally, many adults are interested in exploring a balance of mental, physical, and spiritual training without being beat over the head with mindless rhetoric.  Our classes serve a wide variety of adult students whether they are looking for a workout, want to study a traditional martial art, learn a practical form of self-defense, or just want to expand their horizons in a comfortable social environment where a strong sense of understanding the "whys" and "hows" of what we do is cultivated.

Tang Soo Do

Students will start with basic techniques such as stances, punches, blocks and kicks and learn to combine them into more complex forms and sparring combinations.

Tang Soo Do is much more of an art than a sport, and as such involves more than just practicing of physical techniques. The "Do" in "Tang Soo Do" means 'way' or 'path', as in way or path through life. The experience each student will have depends largely on how much and what kind of effort they put into it. Approached with energy, effort, enthusiasm and an open mind, these studies will bring rewards that carry over into every aspect of life.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

BJJ is a critical component of comprehensive self-defense training because the reality is that most serious fights ultimately end up on the ground.  Most traditional martial arts focus on striking with hands or feet from a standing position and do not always emphasize techniques specifically designed for ground defense.

Students will learn to utilize and defend against a variety of techniques including sweeps, escapes, submission holds and choke holds as well as ankle, wrist, elbow, and shoulder locks. Students will also find that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu helps to build energy, endurance, and confidence.
